Swimmer 4/5/6
Service Description
Swimmers should have previously passed Swimmer 3, 4 or 5 (or have equivalent ability: can front crawl and back crawl for 15 metres each, whip kick for 10 metres, tread water for 30 seconds, and as a sequence: jump into deep water, tread for 30 seconds and then swim 25 metres). In Swimmer 4: Swimmers will move from a beginner to intermediate swimming level. Swimmers will complete standing dives, tread water for 1 minute, and work towards being able to swim underwater for 5 m. Swimmers will achieve the Swim to SurviveĀ® standard by being able to roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute, and swim 50m. In addition to improving their front crawl, back crawl, and whip kick, swimmers will be introduced to breaststroke. In Swimmer 5: Swimmers will be challenged with a whole new set of skills; shallow dives, tuck jumps (cannonball entries), eggbeater kick, and backward somersaults (in water). Technique and endurance will also receive greater focus as swimmers will need to complete longer distance swims and interval training sessions for all their strokes. In Swimmer 6: As the final level in the Swimmer program, swimmers will build up their advanced skill set. Swimmers will work towards mastering stride entries, compact jumps, and lifesaving kicks. They will also refine their strokes to increase their swimming strength, power, and endurance - critical for success in the 300 m workout required to complete the level. Upon passing Swimmer 4: swimmers will be able to front crawl and back crawl for 25 metres each, tread water for 1 minute, complete a 5 metre underwater swim, and complete the Swim to Survive Standard: roll into deep water, tread for 1 minute and then swim 50 metres. Upon passing Swimmer 5: swimmers will be able to front crawl and back crawl for 50 metres each, breaststroke for 25 metres, tread water for 2 minutes, and develop their Swim to Survive skills to: roll into deep water, tread for 90 minutes, and them swim 75 metres. Upon passing Swimmer 6: swimmers will be able to front crawl and back crawl for 100 metres each, breaststroke for 50 metres, scissor kick and eggbeater kick for 15 metres each, and underwater swim 10 metres to pick up an object.
